Netflix Inc. has announced the addition of Miramax films to it’s systems in the UK and Ireland after the signing of multi-year digital licensing agreement. This comes days after that announcement that Lionsgate, the UK based independent studio had signed a new multi-year licensing agreement with the movie subscription service.
Netflix, which announced last month that it would be launching its service in the UK and Ireland in early 2012 also announced a similar deal with MGM films last week. The deals mean that UK and Irish subscribers will be able to stream Miramax, Lionsgate and MGM movies instantly in the pay TV window to their televisions, tablets, game consoles, computers and mobile phones.
Miramax and Lionsgate films will appear on Netflix within one year of their theatrical release. Among recent Lionsgate features which will be available to UK and Ireland subscribers are ‘The Mechanic’, ‘Saw 3D’ and ‘The Expendables’ as well Lionsgate’s back catalogue including titles such as ‘Reservoir Dogs’, ‘Blair Witch Project’, ‘3:10 to Yuma’, and ‘Good Night and Good Luck’.
