Loopline Film’s documentary ‘Hugo Hamilton – Croí agus Teanga’ is to air on TG4 Wednesday October 26th at 9.30pm on TG4.
The 50 minute documentary follows author Hugo Hamilton which reflects on his dual identity and how this shaped his award-winning memoir ‘The Speckled People’. The book told a heartbreaking story of life as a child in a household torn apart by the “language wars”, with a German mother who fled after the Second World War and a fanatical Gaelgoir father. In this documentary, directed by Martina Durac (Muintir na Mara), Hamilton travels from Ireland to Germany and back again, exploring the very essence of his identity.
The documentary is produced by Vanessa Gildea and Martina Durac and is edited by Genevieve Murphy, with Nick Dunne as colourist. Director of Photography is Patrick Jordan. ‘The Speckled People’ play, based on Hugo Hamilton’s memoir is currently showing at the Gate Theatre, Dublin.
