The Irish College in Paris are presenting a festival of Irish documentary films running this weekend from October 6th – 8th. Celebrating the best in contemporary Irish documentary, the festival will include emerging voices such as Risteard O Domhnaill and Ken Wardrop as well as more seasoned filmmakers like Dearbhla Glynn and Pat Collins.
Documentaries that will be screened include ‘The Pipe’, ‘His & Hers’, ‘Tim Robinson: Connemara’ and ‘Dambé: The Mali Project’. Shorts docs to be shown include ‘Needle Exchange’, ‘Bye Bye Now’ and ‘Storm’.
Filmmakers attending the festival include Risteard O Domhnaill, Rachel Lysaght, Ken Wardrop, Pat Collins, Sharon Whooley and Dearbhla Glynn who will take part in Q&A’s following screening of their films. The festival is curated by Dublin-based documentary makers Vanessa Gildea and Martina Durac and will take place at The Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris with support from Culture Ireland.
In other documentary news, the IFTA winning feature doc ‘The Pipe’ has picked up the Environmental Award at the recent Reykjavik Film Festival, with the RFF jury describing Risteard O Domhnaill’s work on the film as “powerful, yet simple … effortless and clear.”
