Principle photography has begun on Element Pictures ‘What Richard Did’ and will continue on locations in and around Dublin and Wicklow for five weeks.
Set in present day Dublin, ‘What Richard Did’ follows the story of a group of privileged teens who over the course of the summer after they leave school, focusing in particular on Richard, a popular sports star, whose life is changed forever after a senseless act of violence. The feature is directed by Lenny Abrahamson (Adam & Paul, Garage) and penned by the writer who has worked on hit UK series ‘Skins’ and ‘Shameless’, Malcolm Campbell. It is loosely based on Kevin Powers’ 2008 novel ‘Bad Day at Blackrock’.
The film stars a host of young Irish actors including Jack Reynor, Sam Keeley (The Other Side of Sleep) and Roisin Murphy as well as established talent Lorraine Pilkington (Human Traffic) and Lars Mikkelsen (The Killing). Producer for the feature is Ed Guiney (The Guard), with Andrew Lowe (The Wind That Shakes the Barley) executive producing. Director of Photography is David Grennan (Between the Canals) and line producer is Breda Walsh (Val Falvey TD).
The film is supported by the Irish Film Board and Element Pictures and will be released through Element Pictures Distribution in 2012.
