Cameras are currently rolling on the eagerly awaited sequel to the award winning ‘Rásaí na Gaillimhe’ (The Galway Races).
The original series broadcast in 2009 to critical acclaim and the highest viewing figures ever for a drama broadcast on TG4.

The second series sees the reunion of the creative trio behind the original series with James Phelan reprising writing duties and Robert Quinn (Primeval, Na Cloigne) returning to direct and Niamh Fagan producer (Trouble in Paradise, The Last Furlong) of the seven part comedy drama. IFTA nominated for their work on the first series, Rasai na Gaillimhe won the IFTA for ‘Best Irish Language’ programme in 2010.

James explains that "the first series being held in such esteem and affection by critics and audiences alike sets a standard that we hope to exceed the second time around. Our aim is to create an even better, funnier and fresher show that will entertain and reward our returning audience while also expanding the viewership for TG4".

Robert Quinn, "it's been three years since we unleashed the Rasai na Gaillimhe chaos onto the screen and we've been itching to do so ever since. It's great to be working with the producers, cast and crew again. More chaos, more boldness to follow".

The series is being made by Great Western Films and produced by Niamh Fagan. Niamh said, "it's great to be back in the world of Rasai. TG4 have a well earned reputation for being the home of exciting and cutting edge indiginous Irish drama and we are delighted to be working with them again. Galway is a fantastic place to film and the crew here are amazing - they are professional, dedicated, flexible and versatile."

Plot details are mainly being kept under wraps but James divulges that all of the returning characters find themselves in radically different situations as the new series opens. For example, the lecherous politician Ultan Keane played so vividly by Don Wycherley (Bachelors Walk, An Crisis) has endured a spectacular fall from grace. He reunites with his Special Branch buddy Cathal Creed played by Tom O Suilleabhain (Primeval, The Clinic), to hatch a devious and extreme scheme to seize power. Donncha Crowley (The Runway) and Owen Roe (Val Falvey TD) return and new cast this season include Eamonn Hunt (My Brothers), Carrie Crowley (The Clinic) and Bríd Ní Neachtain (Pure Mule).

‘Rásaí na Gaillimhe 2’ is being shot by DOP Cian De Buitléar and edited by Dermot Diskin. Production Design is by Mags Linnane and Costume by Lara Campbell.
The series is funded by TG4 and BAI and will be broadcast in early 2012.
