'Good Vibrations' Filming Begins in Belfast, Richard Dormer & Jodi Whittaker Head Cast
05 Sep 2011 :
Dylan Moran, Richard Dormer and Jodie Whittaker
Acting talent including Richard Dormer (Five Minutes of Heaven), Jodi Whittaker (One Day), Liam Cunningham (Hunger), Dylan Moran (A Cock and Bull Story) and Adrian Dunbar (The Crying Game) can be seen on the streets of Belfast, where filming is underway for Terri Hooley biopic ‘Good Vibrations’.

Filming began last week and the feature will shoot on location for five weeks in Belfast and the below the border in the Republic. Directed by husband and wife team Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Cherrybomb), ‘Good Vibrations’ tells the story of Belfast music legend and rebel Terri Hooley (Richard Dormer), who opens up a record shop on the most bombed half-mile in Europe. As a gesture of defiance against the Troubles, Terri uses the music of the city that he loves to resurrect Belfast.

The script is written by writers Colin Carberry and Glenn Patterson and producers on the biopic are Andrew Eaton (The Trip), Chris Martin (Peacefire). David Holmes (Ocean’s Eleven) is also on the producing team and will provide a score for the feature.

Producers Andrew Eaton and Chris Martin said "We are absolutely delighted to see this project come to fruition. To be able to tell the story of Belfast's godfather of punk, Terri Hooley, and to carry forward the resilience and spirit that was shown throughout the 70's and 80's Good Vibrations era. This ethos and spirit has been a major driving force in what we have done and will do as a production.”

DOP on the shoot is Ivan McCullough (The Eclipse) with Derek Wallace (Triage) doing Production Design and Maggie Donnelly (Five Minutes of Heaven) as Costume Designer. Editor is Nick Emerson (Cherrybomb). Executive producers on the feature include Joe Oppenheimer for BBC Films, Nigel Thomas from Matador Pictures, Bruno Charlesworth from Immaculate Conception Films and Robert Walpole and Rebecca O’Flanagan from Irish production company Treasure Entertainment.

‘Good Vibrations’ is financed by BBC Films, Bord Scannán na hÉireann/Irish Film Board, Northern Ireland Screen, BBC Northern Ireland, Immaculate Conception Films, Matador Pictures and Cinema One. The film is a Canderblinks Film & Music, Revolution Films and Treasure Entertainment production. The Works is handling international sales.
