Irish based grip equipment and hire service, Celtic Grips have had a busy year providing equipment and crew for Irish and International productions including ‘Clash of the Titans 2’, ‘World War Z’, ‘Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia’, ‘Whole Lotta Sole’ and ‘Camelot’.
Earlier this year, Phillip Murphy of Celtic Grips travelled to Tenerife to grip Warner Bros multi million dollar sequel ‘Clash of the Titans 2’. Starring Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson and Rosamund Pike, the action film follows the warring Greek Gods. The film is due for release in 2012.
Finishing ‘Clash of the Titans 2’ in early June, Murphy went on to work on another massive production for Paramount Pictures ‘World War Z’, which has been shooting on location in Malta, U.K. and Budapest. Zombie movie ‘World War Z’ is produced by and starring Brad Pitt and Director of Photography on the shoot is Oscar nominated Robert Richardson. Murphy will continue working as grip on ‘World War Z’ until October. His previous credits as grip include Steven Soderbergh’s ‘Haywire’, Darragh Byrne’s ‘Parked’ and hit TV series ‘The Tudors’.
Meanwhile, on home soil, Celtic Grips David O’Connor and grip crew are working on the large-scale French franchise ‘Astérix and Obélix: God Save Britannia’. Fidelite Films are currently filming for the project in Wicklow, Meath and The Burren, Co. Clare, with Octagon on board as Irish co-producers. The Irish company have provided equipment and crew for the production which will be filming in Ireland until September.
Earlier this year, O’Connor gripped for Director of Photography Des Whelan on ‘Whole Lotta Sole’ in Belfast.
This year, Celtic Grips have also equipped major television productions including ‘The All Ireland Talent Show’, ‘Camelot’ and for T.V. commercials for clients including Vodafone, Meteor and Bord Gais.
