Irish features, John Michael McDonagh’s ‘The Guard’ and John McIlduff’s ‘Behold the Lamb’ have both been announced in the line-up for the 22nd Dinard Film Festival which runs from October 5th-9th.
‘The Guard’ will compete for the Hitchcock D’Or Award, with competition from David MacKenzie’s ‘You Instead’, Jim Loach’s ‘Oranges And Sunshine’, Paddy Considine’s ‘Tyrannosaur’ and two other, as yet unannounced films. Last year’s Hitchcock D’Or Award was shared by Nigel Cole’s ‘Made in Dagenham’ and Jamie Thraves ‘Treacle Jr.’ McDonagh’s debut feature has already proved to be very popular with Irish audiences having already grossed over €3 million at Irish box-offices.
Northern Irish Film ‘Behold the Lamb’ will also screen at the festival. Written and directed by John McIlduff and produced by Kevin Jackson, ‘Behold the Lamb’ is a dark comedy that follows a depressed accountant Eddie (Nigel O’Neill) and young tearaway Liz (Aoife Duffin) as they travel across Northern Ireland to pick up a lamb. It was produced through Northern Ireland Screen’s Ultra Low Budget Feature Film Scheme in association with FILM4 and has previously screened at Karlovy.
The Dinard Film Festival aims to promote British Films to French audiences and will take place in Dinard, France from October 5th-9th.
