Primetime Emmy Nominations for 'Game of Thrones', 'The Borgais' and 'Camelot'

The Primetime Emmy nominations were announced today in Los Angeles with Irish filmed HBO epic ‘Game of Thrones’ being nominated in a whopping 13 categories. Neil Jordan’s ‘The Borgias’ was nominated for six with the now axed ‘Camelot’ receiving one nomination. Irish actor Brian F O'Byrne receives supporting actor nod.

Neil Jordan has been nominated for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series for ‘The Poison Chalice/The Assassin’ with Game Of Thrones director Tim Van Patten also receiving a nomination in this category. Other directors in this category include Martin Scorsese for 'Boardwalk Empire' (pilot), Jeremy Podeswa for 'Boardwalk Empire' and Patty Jenkins for 'The Killing'.

Other nominees received for the HBO series which filmed in Belfast Paint Hall Studios and Northern Ireland include a nod for Supporting actor for Peter Dinklage (Tyrlon Lannister) and for Outstanding Drama Series. Richard Williams, CEO of Northern Ireland Screen commented on the nominations saying “We are delighted to hear that Game of Thrones has received 13 Emmy nominations. The ceremony has a huge international profile and helps us promote the wealth of stunning locations and creative talent in Northern Ireland to a global audience. We send sincere congratulations to all the nominees.”

Produced by Dublin based Octagon films, ‘The Borgias’ was also nominated for outstanding Art Direction, Costume and Cinematography. Both ‘The Borgias’ and ‘Game of Thrones’ received nominations for Outstanding Visual Effects.

‘Camelot’ received a nomination in the category of Outstanding Main Title Theme Music.

Irish hair stylist Rachael Dowling was nominated in Outsanding Hairstyling in a Multi-Camera Series/Special for her work on 'Dancing with the Stars'.

The 63rd Primetime Emmy Awards will take place on the 18th September. Sky drama 'Mildred Pierce' topped the shortlist with 21 nominations including nods for lead actress Kate Winslet and Irish actor Brian F O'Byrne for his supporting role as Bert Pierce. He's up against Tom Wilkinson (The Kennedys), his 'Mildred Pierce' co-star Guy Pearce, and 'Too Big To Fail' stars Paul Giamatti & James Woods.

The second series of ‘Game of Thrones’ will once again shoot in Northern Ireland with filming expecting to begin at the end of July. 'The Borgias' season two is scheduled to begin filming in Europe shortly.
