Liddell Entertainment and Roadside Attraction have nabbed all US rights to ‘Albert Nobbs’. Directed by Rodrigo Garcia (In Treatment) and starring Glenn Close (Dangerous Liasons), the feature filmed in Dublin in December 2010 and January 2011. It centres around Glenn Close’s title character, a woman in the 19th century Ireland who disguises herself as a man in order to survive and work but whose deception leads her to an unusual love triangle.
The deal was announced jointly by Mickey Liddell of Liddell Entertainment and Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff, Co-Presidents of Roadside Attractions today. “Glenn Close appears in nearly every frame as Albert Nobbs, and her performance is masterful,” said Liddell. “This is an intimate film full of big ideas in the tradition of ‘Gosford Park’ and ‘Sense and Sensibility’.” d'Arbeloff also commented on the film saying “This great story about a woman forced to hide in plain sight will resonate with contemporary filmgoers. Glenn Close is one of the true leading ladies of American cinema, and her vision for this film is incredibly inspiring.”
Written by Glenn Close and John Banville (The Sea), Close is also producing the film alongside Bonnie Curtis (Saving Private Ryan), Julie Lynn (The Jane Austen Book Club) and Alan Moloney (Triage) of Dublin based Parallel Films. The feature has already sold to other international territories including India (PictureWorks), South Africa (Nu Metro), Russia (Film Depot) and France (Chrysalis).
Other talent in the film include Janet McTeer (Into the Storm), Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland), Aaron Johnson (Nowhere Boy), Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), Brenda Fricker (My Left Foot) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (The Tudors). Liddell Entertainment have released films such as ‘I Love You Philip Morris’ and ‘The Collector’ with Roadside Attractions having recently released ‘Winter’s Bone’ and ‘Everything Must Go’. West End London is handling sales on the project. Ireland and UK sales are TBC.
