30 Jun 2011 :
2011 Storyland winner 'Lucky Run'
RTÉ web-based drama competition StoryLand is revealing details of the fourth StoryLand competition and advice for potential applicants in an info session to be held on Wednesday July 6th from 7pm.

RTÉ Drama commissioning team will be there to detail what they are looking for when choosing proposals as well as speakers from finalist programmes of last years StoryLand competition. Commissioning Editor Jane Gogan will begin by giving an overview of how StoryLand fits into the overall range of output at RTÉ and what they do and don’t want from proposals. Details and time-lines of the competition will also be revealed. Development Executives Eilish Kent and David Crean will also be attendance to offer advice to potential productions.

Speakers from finalists of last years StoryLand competition including ‘The Outlaw Concy Ryan’, ‘The Last Security Man’ and others TBC will take part in the session, offering personal advice on taking part in the web-based competition. The session also provides an opportunity for networking among writers, directors and producers. The fourth season of the web-based competition will be launched next month and the deadline for first round applicants to the competition will be late September. Eight chosen applicants will then get the chance to produce episodes of their shows which will be shown online.

This year’s Storyland winner was the Capaillín Bán Teo production ‘Lucky Run’, directed by Colm Cafferkey and co-produced by Deirdre de Grae and Eamon de Staic. It is a drama set in the West of Ireland where lead character Robbie has 48 hours to repay a finger-chopping gangster €5000. The competition gives new talent an opportunity to develop a drama series online with the winner getting to make subsequent episodes. Previous winners include Martin Maloney’s mockumentary ‘Hardy Bucks’ which won in 2009 and received over three million hits on You Tube and was broadcast on RTÉ Two in 2010.

Places for the information evening are limited and must be pre-booked by emailing storyland4@rte.iebefore Monday July 4th.
