The ‘Real Deal’ Business of Creativity film conference will take place on Galway Thursday 7th July in the Radisson Hotel with Michael Kun and BAFTA winning filmmaker Asif Kapadia speaking at the event.
The theme of the conference is ‘Real Ideas, Real Business, Real Conversations’ and it will take place on Thursday July 7th in the Radisson Hotel Galway. The day long conference will begin with a keynote speech from producer and founder of Polygram Filmed Entertainment and Qwerty Films Michael Kuhn. Polygram Filmed Entertainment made and distributed feature films such as ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’, ‘Notting Hill’ and ‘Trainspotting’. Michael Kuhn has acted as producer or executive producer on films such as ‘The Duchess’, ‘I Heart Huckabees’, ‘Being John Malkovich’ and ‘Kinsey’. His speech will be followed by an interview hosted by Ed Guiney of Element Pictures.
Asif Kapadia will also give a session in the afternoon where he will be interviewed by IFB Production Executive Alan Maher. Kapadia’s most recent documentary ‘Senna’ follows the life and tragic death of three time F1 World championship winner Brazillian racing driver Ayrton Senna.
Other sessions include a post lunch panel titled Real Ideas: “Seeing is Believing” which will be a discussion with Irish exhibitors on how to find new ways of engaging Irish audiences. Panel members include Sarah Glennie of the Irish Film Institute, Chiara Oriani of The Eye, Galway and Maeve Cooke of Access Cinema, Ireland. It will be chaired by Robert Finn of Element Pictures Distribution.
Afternoon panels are titled Real Ideas: “The Holy Grail: Finding an Audience” about the increasing challenge of getting a film to an audience and Real Business: “Hard Cash” where a panel of representatives from UK and Irish commercial funds will reveal what interests them in a project and what is the secret to bringing market money to your film.
The Real Deal, The Business of Creativity is a joint initiative between Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board (IFB) and the Galway Film Fleadh. Tickets are available through the Galway Film Fleadh website at Galway Film Fleadh.
