IFTA winning actress Angeline Ball will adopt a Manchester accent for her new role as Gloria in Channel 4’s comedy ‘Shameless’. The BAFTA award winning series is set in the fictional Chatsworth council estate in Manchester as it follows the lives of the dysfunctional Gallagher family.
’Shameless’ was first aired in 2004 and has been running for eight series. Series nine has begun filming earlier this summer. Angeline Ball’s previous roles include back-up singer Imelda Quirke in ‘The Commitments’ and Vada’s mum Maggie Muldovan in ‘My Girl 2’. In 2003 she won an IFTA for best Actress in a TV Programme for her portrayal of Nora in the TV series ‘Anytime Now’ and Best Actress in a Film for her portrayal of Molly in an adaptation of Joyce’s ‘Ulysess’. She also played the role of Maggie in UK soap ‘Eastenders’ in 2008.
The second part of series 8 of ‘Shameless’ will be returning to Channel 4 in August 2011.
