RTÉ IPU is seeking proposal submissions from independent producers for two Young Peoples slots; a 10x26 series to broadcast during the Christmas holidays and 12 x 3 minute inserts for ‘elev8’.
CHRISTMAS BREAK PROGRAMMING IDEAS 2011-2012
RTÉ Young Peoples Programming is calling for proposals for 10x26 minute series to be broadcast during the Christmas 2011 school holidays.
Ideas should engage the teen/tween age group of 11-15 year olds and will deliver a ‘must-see’ format for its audiences. The proposal should not be seasonal, and should have an online dimension. Strong, engaging characters who represent a good regional spread should be present in the programme. RTÉ recommends that the proposal should tap into the multi-media platforms that this age group uses and original or existing formats will be welcomed as proposals.
The total cash budget is a maximum of €260,000 although multi-camera studio facilities are available at RTÉ for 5x8 hour days. Proposals should include a format outline, draft running order, and proposed talent. In addition casting methodology should be addressed along with criteria for selecting the participant teams and characters within. Proposals should also identify the key production personnel and their experience in making programmes for young people. The series must be completed in time for transmission by December 26th 2011.

CALLOUT FOR ELEV8 SHORT VT STRAND PROPOSAL
RTÉ is also calling for proposals to produce a 12 x 3 minute insert for ‘elev8’; a RTÉ Young Peoples TRTÉ live daily entertainment programme for ages 7-11.
The three minute inserts will form the regional heats of a competition that will be broadcast as an inserted clip in the studio based ‘elev8’ show. Producers will be responsible for organising and recruiting children (ages 7-11) for the twelve auditions; three in each of the four provinces. The auditions will be shot on two camera dv cover, and will be edited into three minute clips with identification of location through signage and flags etc, highlights of the best and worst of the auditions and to select and announce the best six, based on a set of pre-decided criteria.
A simple, YouTube style one-minute clip of the finalists’ performances will be delivered to be uploaded onto the website for public vote.
The contract is to produce the heat stages of the competition only and the chosen company will need to produce all 12x3 minute clips and the 6x1 minute finalist clips on digibeta in good time for transmission weekly from 5th September. The proposal must be relevant to budget (€38,000) and timescale, it should be suitable for RTÉ Young Peoples programming and its target audience and must fit the brief outlined. The production company must also illustrate a proven track record for producing programmes for young people.
