Emmet J Scanlan Wins at Soap Awards
19 May 2011 :
Emmet picking up his British Soap Award
‘Hollyoaks’ actor, Emmett J Scanlan came away from last night’s British Soap Awards clutching the gongs for Villain of the year and Best Newcomer for his role as Brendan Brady in the Channel 4 soap. The gala awards show took place in Manchester’s Granada Studios and was presented by Philip Schofield.

The Irish actor fought off competition from Paula Lane (Coronation Street), Ricky Norwood (Eastenders) and Pauline Quirke (Emmerdale) to win the title of Best Newcomer. The Dublin born actor also scooped the prize of Best Villian for which he had been nominated alongside Kate Ford who plays Tracy Barlow in ‘Coronation Street’, Charlie Brooks who plays Janine Mally in ‘EastEnders’ and Don Gilet who is Lucas Johnson also in ‘EastEnders’.

Sadly the only other Irish nominee on the night, Keith Duffy failed to win in the event’s Sexiest Male category, losing out to ‘Eastenders’ Scott Maslen. The event saw ‘Coronation Street’ take home nine awards including Best Storyline and Best Spectacular Scene for the Tram Crash which, earlier this year, was also nominated for an IFTA Best TV Moment award. ‘Eastenders’ was named Best British Soap on the night.
