Irish director Ruairi Robinson (Silent City, Blinky) is set to direct new contemporary sci-fi adventure ‘The Fallen’. The futuristic pic follows a Special Ops team sent into the wilderness to find and neutralise an Alien ship that has crash landed on Earth and created a 400 mile electronic dead-zone.
With an estimated budget of $35million, ‘The Fallen’ is to be financed by Lionsgate and co-produced by PeaPie Films. The film’s screenplay is written by Andrew Will, who also recently sold spec script ‘Archangel’ to Ridley Scott’s Scott Free and New Regency with Joseph Kosinski (Tron: Legacy) to direct.
Rising Irish talent Ruairi Robinson has been making strides in the industry since bursting onto the international scene with his 2001 Oscar nominated short ‘Fifty Percent Grey’. The 33 year old writer/director is also behind visual treats such as ‘The German’, ‘The Silent City’ and ‘BlinkyTM’ , short film titles produced by Nick Ryan at Dublin’s Image Now Films. Robinson has been the winner of over 30 international awards and nominations for his short films and commercials, including the Sharks, the Icads, Design Awards, LEAF, British Animation Awards and O2 Digital Awards.
‘The Fallen’ will be Robinson’s feature directorial debut and is scheduled for production in 2012. PeaPie Films’ producer Kris Thykier (Harry Brown) is developing the project with Ruairi and Lionsgate. “Andrew Will's The Fallen is taut and viscerally thrilling, and a fantastic project for Ruairi, whom I believe to be one of the most exciting young directors in the world today,” says Thykier.
UK CEO Zygi Kamasa said the feature, the company’s fourth foray into the production arena, has “worldwide appeal” and will be a “ big commercial release next year for us which continues our remit to support mainstream British films.”
