2000AD Productions has just acquired the rights to the book ‘Sweetie: How Haughey Spent the Money’ and its screen adaptation entitled ‘Political Betrayal’ penned by the same writer, Kevin O Connor. The feature, the first feature film to explore Charles Haughey’s life, is to be produced by Adrian Devane (The Parting, Fairycatcher) who will travel to Disney’s ‘Produced by’ conference in Burbank in June to meet with studio execs with regards to funding the film.

The film will examine the former Taoiseach’s life at the height of his power and has been in the pipeline for some time, as Adrian Devane tells us: "I have been working with the author of this book for a while now and the timing is perfect to make this film that many will want to see throughout the world about a very famous colourful man."

Adrian is now working on the development of the film’s script, ‘Political Betrayal’ and will travel to LA in June for the annual ‘Produced By’ conference in Burbank where he plans to discuss the financing of the film with studio execs in attendance. 1,100 producers and studio execs attended the event last year and those confirmed to attend this year include Harvey Weinstein (The King’s Speech), Marshall Herskovitz (Blood Diamond), Ian Bryce (Saving Private Ryan) and John Sloss (The Kids are All Right). Adrian also plans to seek support from Irish funding bodies. Further cast and crew details will be announced in due course on IFTN.
