Lance Daly’s ‘Kisses’ has been nominated for a Spirit Award in the category of Foreign Film. The film recently finished its American theatrical release and will compete for the Foreign Film title at a gala ceremony on February 26th 2011.
‘Kisses’ follows two young children who decide to run away from their dysfunctional homes and spend a night on the streets of Dublin's inner city. Daly's vision of Dublin, as seen through the innocent eyes of Kisses’ protagonists, is a kaleidoscope of magic, wonder and mystery. But as the night wears on, and Dublin takes on a darker character, the two kids have to rely on the kindness of strangers, the songs of Bob Dylan and their trust in each other to survive.
The IFTA winning Irish feature is written and directed by Lance Daly (The Halo Effect), and had a select theatrical release in the U.S this summer and autumn. The film has already enjoyed huge success in America, having been officially selected for screening at festivals including Toronto and Miami and walked away with latter event’s Audience Award.
'Kisses' was produced by Macdara Kelleher at Dublin's Fastnet Films. Speaking to IFTN today he said "we are delighted to be nominated for the Independent Spirit Awards and honoured to be in such fine company with the other nominees."
The other Foreign Film nominees include ‘Mademoiselle Chambon’ by Stéphane Brizé; Xavier Beauvois’ ‘Of Gods and Men’; Tom Hooper’s ‘The King’s Speech’ and ’Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives’ which is directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
The Spirit Awards ceremony will be held Feb. 26 in Santa Monica and will be presented by ‘The Soup’ presenter, Joel McHale. The awards look to champion the cause of independent film and support artists who embody diversity, innovation, and uniqueness of vision. For a full list of nominees visit www.spiritawards.com
