26 Oct 2010 :
Roy
Dublin based animation studio JAM Media have voiced their delight at the news that their animated series, ‘Roy’ has received two BAFTA British Academy Children's Awards nominations. The award winning 26 part series was commissioned by the BBC and has been nominated in the categories of Drama and Writer. Irish director Neasa Hardiman has also seen her recent project, ‘Tracy Beaker Returns’ receive a drama nomination

Based on the short film 'Badly Drawn Roy', ‘Roy’ centres around the only cartoon boy in world and is a celebration of what it's like to be different. "The series speaks to all children in that everyone has at one time of another felt different. Roy is a humourous take on this theme,” JAM Media CEO and ‘Roy’ exec producer, John Rice, tells us. "We're absolutely thrilled to be nominated.” ’Roy’ is a 13 minute series that is a mixture of animation and live action. Created by Alan Shannon the series stars Scott Graham as the voice of Roy alongside Simon Delaney (Zonad) and Cathy Belton (Savage). It is produced by Mark Cumberton (writer, Picme).

In the Drama category, ‘Roy’ will face competition from Gamelab London/BSL Zone’s ‘The Boy from Before’, BBC Wales/CBBC’s ‘The Sarah Jane Adventrues’ and CBBC’s ‘Tracy Beaker Returns’ which is directed by IFTA nominated Irish director, Neasa Hardiman (Prime Time).

In the Writer group ‘Roy’ scribe, Paul Smith (Desperados) is joined by Neville Astley, Mark Baker, Phil Hall for ‘Peppa Pig’, Phil Ford for ‘The Sarah Jane Adventures’ and the writing team behind the ‘Horrible Histories’ series.

This year's Awards will be hosted by presenter of childrens TV shows such as ‘Barney’s Barrier Reef’ and ‘Prank Patrol’, Barney Harwood. The awards ceremony will take place at the London Hilton, Park Lane on Sunday, November 28th.
