The 2010 Creative Arts Emmy awards ceremony will take place on Saturday, August 21st followed by the Primetime Emmy awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, 29th August. The 62nd installment of the event will see Irish talent compete in six categories, namely art direction, cinematography, costume and hair and make-up for ‘The Tudors’ alongside Michael Gambon for his role in ‘Emma’ and ‘Celtic Woman’s David Downes for his music direction.
The IFTA winning show, ‘The Tudors’ has received four nominations for its fourth and final series. In the category of Outstanding Art Direction for a Single-Camera Series the Irish co-production sees a nod for production designer, Tom Conroy, art director Colman Corish and set decorator, Crispian Sallis. The team, nominated for their work on series episodes 407 and 408, will face competition from the artistic teams behind ‘Glee’, ‘Heroes’, ‘Lost’, ‘Modern Family’ and ‘True Blood’.
Director of photography Ousama Rawi has been nominated for his Outstanding Cinematography for a One Hour Series, he will compete for the top prize with Michael Slovis for ‘Breaking Bad’, Christian Sebaldt for ‘CSI’ and Christoper Manley for ‘Mad Men’. Furthermore, Joan Bergin and Susan Cave have received nominations for their Costume Design and Wardrobe supervision respectively. The other costume teams nominated include those working for ‘Glee’ in the episode entitled ‘The Power of Madonna’, ‘Mad Men’ and ’30 Rock’ for the episode ‘I Do Do’ all of whom will now compete in the category Outstanding Costumes for a Series.
The final nominee of ‘The Tudors’, Dee Corcoran will see her Outstanding Hairstyling for a Single Camera Series in episode 407 of ‘The Tudors’ battle the hairstylists featured on the sets of ‘Castle’, ‘Tracey Ullman’s State of the Union’, ‘Mad Men’ and ‘Glee’ for the episodes entitled ‘The Power of Madonna’ and ‘Hairograpy’. The final ‘Tudors’ series examines the final years in the turbulent reign of King Henry VIII. The series is produced by the Showtime Network in the US, and is co-produced by Morgan O'Sullivan and James Flynn of World 2000 Entertainment.
In the group of Outstanding Supporting Actor In A Miniseries Or A Movie, Dublin-born actor Michael Gambon has been nominated for his role as Mr. Woodhouse in the BBC co-production of ‘Emma’. Michael will be competing against Patrick Stewart for ‘Hamlet’, Jonathan Pryce for ‘Return to Cranford’, David Strathairn for ‘Temple Grandin’ and John Goodman as ‘You Don’t Know Jack’.
Finally, David Downes has received a nod in the group of Outstanding Music Direction for his work on ‘Celtic Woman: Stories from the Heart’ a chronicle of the live show which has toured various locations around the globe. David’s fellow nominees include Marc Saiman for the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, David Foster for ‘Andrea Bocelli & David Foster: My Christmas for David Foster’, Sheila E. for ’In Performance at the White House’, ‘The Kennedy Center Honors’ for Rob Mathes and Rob Berman for the 'Vancouver 2010 Olympic Winter Games Opening Ceremony'.
The Daytime and Creative Arts Emmy awards will be awarded on August 21st. The categories that will be awarded at this event include all of the categories mentioned above with the exception of Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Miniseries or a Movie for which Michael Gambon has been nominated.
The 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards are to be telecast live on Sunday, August 29th on NBC and will include Michael’s category alongside footage of the winners at the preceding Creative Arts Emmy awards. The Awards will be held at LA’s Nokia Theatre. For a full list of nominees visit www.emmys.com
