Engine Room Pitch for Factual Filmmakers
04 May 2010 :
Pulse College and FAS Screen Training Ireland have launched The Engine Room Pitch, a two-day project development and pitching workshop for documentary/factual filmmakers seeking Irish and international commissions and market intelligence. The workshop and networking event is being held on May 20th and 21st for filmmakers looking to launch their work on the market place.

Created by leading international pitch trainer, Christina Burnett of Wide Eye Pictures, The Engine Room pitch formats have been successful in the UK, Brazil and Abu Dhabi. The workshops develop real projects which are then presented to two commissioners for feedback. MEDIA Desk Ireland will also give an introduction to the funding, training and opportunities available at international festivals and markets.

Following her participation in the course Sandra Whipham of London Fields Films and former Commissioning Editor of ‘True Stories’ commented: “The Engine Room Pitch is a must-do for every filmmaker looking to pitch into the marketplace. Practical and inspiring, it makes you think about, and present, your film in the best possible way.”

Similarly series producer, Carolyn Payne said, “I thought the workshop was excellent and incredibly productive on many levels. It was very well run. Everyone got excellent feedback about their projects in a very supportive way. Some of us have had excellent ins to serious funders for our projects - you can’t ask for more than that can you?” Finally TG4’s Máire Ní Chonláin described the course as: “A unique opportunity for commissioning editors to engage with both known and new talent in a relaxed but highly focused environment where it is possible to get.”

Would-be participants are asked to apply online at www.screentrainingireland.ie and/or email: criona.sexton@fas.ie for further information. Individuals can attend either as a pitcher with project, or as an observer. All projects which are submitted by the deadline of May 6th will be considered and those which are selected to pitch will be notified in advance of the workshop.
