Distributor Verve Pictures has announced that Newgrange Pictures’ ‘Happy Ever Afters’ is to receive a UK theatrical release on Friday, March 19th. The deal was negotiated by Paris based sales agent Films Distribution.
The film’s plot sees Freddie, played by Tom Riley (Lost in Austen, St. Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold), and Maura, played by Sally Hawkins (Happy-Go-Lucky, An Education), getting married, just not to each other. While Freddie is entering his second marriage with the neurotic Sophie, played by IFTA nominee Jade Yourell (Waiting for Dublin, The Longest Day), Maura's is more concerned with her pockets than her heart in marrying ‘Doctors’ star, Ariyon Bakare’s Wilson.
Then, when the two wedding parties end up at the same reception venue, the illusion of wedded bliss looks set to collapse on top of the newly-weds and their guests. The film's stellar Irish cast includes IFTA nominees Simon Delaney (Zonad) and Ger Ryan (A Love Divided) alongside Tina Kelleher (The Clinic), Deirdre Molloy (Adam and Paul), Tomas O'Suilleabhain (Trouble with Sex) and Stanley Townsend (Hilde).
Verve Pictures’ marketing chief Julia Short says of the UK release: “We loved ‘Happy Ever Afters’ with its witty dialogue, strong casting and a storyline that’s totally engaging. We are delighted to be releasing the film.”
In conjunction with The Daily Mirror, Verve Pictures will be holding exclusive Mother’s Day preview screenings a week before the release. Written & Directed by Stephen Burke (No Tears) in his feature film debut the film is produced by Lesley McKimm (Executive producer, Whistleblower) and has now sold to 14 territories worldwide including Lucky Red (Italy), Haut et Court (France), Senator & Degeto (Germany) and Hopscotch (Australia).
