The Women’s International Film & Television Showcase has selected Irish writer/director/producer Mary McGuckian (The Bridge of San Luis Rey, Rag Tale, Best) to receive their career achievement award.
44 year old McGuckian has written, directed and produced nine feature films in the past four years. Best known for her Amorality trilogy, comprised of ‘Rag Tale’, ‘Intervention’ and ‘Inconceivable’, the filmmaker’s latest project, ‘The Making Of Plus One’ – a mockumentary based upon the making of an independent feature film, is set to premiere in the US later this year.
McGuckian will receive the WIFTS award at a ceremony in Los Angeles on 4 December 2009. WIFTS will be screening a showcase of her work from November 29 - December 4.
Other 2009 WIFTS honourees include Elizabeth Grant, Nancy Kwan, Tegla Loroupe, Shohreh Aghdashloo - Humanitarian Award, Betty Makoni, Nancy Carter and Christina Jennings.
