The IFI will once again host this year's Horrorthon festival, now in it's 12th year. Highlights include Joe Dante's 'Gremlins', 'Jennifer's Body', Conor McMahon's 'The Disturbed', and Romero's 'Day of the Dead'.
The Horrorthon Director, Ed King, launched the programme on Thursday, October 1st saying "It has been a terrific year for Horror with an overabundance of brilliant new titles to choose from. The result is that this year’s programme is packed full of new films giving Horrorthon-goers more sneak previews of the goriest movies we could bear to watch."
Karyn Kusama’s big budget studio horror ‘Jennifer’s Body’ will open the festival. The film, written by Diablo Cody (Juno) and starring Megan Fox (Transformers) tells the tale of a small-town teenage temptress who is possessed by a demon.
Other highlights of the festival include Irish director Conor McMahon’s ‘The Disturbed’ where friends Clyde and Jed are all set for a fun weekend of torture and filmmaking in the countryside, a world premiere of ‘The Undying’ featuring American Civil War era phantoms reinhabiting corpses and falling in love with inevitably unhappy consequences which will be followed by a Q&A session with director Steven Peros and a new documentary ‘Nightmares in Red, White and Blue: The Evolution of the American Horror Film’ from director Andrew Monument.
There will also be a screening of Joe Dante’s 1984 horror ‘Gremlins’ in a rare screening of a top quality 70mm print. There will also be a reappearance of George A. Romero’s ‘Day of the Dead’ and ‘Zone of the Dead’ featuring special guest appearances from cast members Joe Pilato and Ken Foree.
