Hawkeye Films in conjunction with the TG4’s ‘Cogar’ series commences production on two documentaries this coming week.
The first ‘Ballivor’ is a documentary in which former RTE radio producer John Quinn visits his childhood home in Ballivor, Co. Meath, for the first time in over fifty years. The shoot which is scheduled to take one week is being produced by Donal Haughey and D.O.P is Derek Conway. With the edit due to take place in Telegeal in Spiddal, the documentary will be broadcast in the Autumn.
Also to be aired in the ‘Cogar’ series will be ‘The Friary’. This documentary is set to be shot on location in Rome over one week, taking a look at the historic Irish Franciscan Friary of St. Isidores, its few remaining Irish members and the community as they adapt to the changes of modern society.
Producer/Director Donal Haughey and D.O.P Derek Conway are also finishing work on shooting a documentary chronicling the Irish tradition of turf cutting and the special relationships which the people of the West of Ireland have with bogs. This production which has been shot over the last year is also due to air in the Autumn in conjunction with the first year in Irish history in which the bog cutting process may be stopped.
‘Na Zimmers’, which looks at three Irish members of the oldest band in the world, The Zimmers, who appeared on The Late Late Show, will also feature in the TG4 schedule. Directed by Ciaran Deeney this production chronicles the members on their insights into being elderly, Irish and living in London.
The ‘Cogar’ series broadcasts programmes which concentrate on people rather than issues. Participants thus get to tell their own personal story in their own way allowing the hidden side of Irish life to be visually captured.
