The Stranger Than Fiction 2009 Documentary Film Festival, scheduled to take place in the IFI from 18-21 June, will include a host of both indigenous and foreign documentary film premieres in addition to discussions and presentations.
The Irish Communities Abroad Programme will screen ‘Goodbye to Glocamorra’, ‘Guests of Another Nation’ and ‘The Forgotten Irish’ on Friday 19th @ 12.15pm. Saturday 20th @ 12pm will see the screening of Alternative Communities including ‘The Silent Order’, ‘Family’ and ‘Roll Up Your Sleeves’.
On Sunday June 21st @ 2.15pm Irish premier of Tom Burke and Shane Hogan’s ‘The Liberties’ will be screened. This film is a series of 12 shorts that each focus on a different microcosm within Dublin’s Liberties community. From the man who raised seven daughters in a two bedroom flat; the stone sculptor who is set to retire after sixty years of work; the evangelical church reaching out with bingo; and the Oscar-winning actress who would live nowhere else in the world. The two directors will participate in a question and answers session post screening.

A panel discussion with Screen Producers Ireland, a BCI Presentation covering their Sound & Vision Broadcasting Funding Scheme and ‘The Yes Men Fix The World.’
Tickets for each screening are available at a cost of €9, except for the opening film which at a cost of €15 includes a post-screening reception. Special packages are available at a cost if €40 for five films, or €70 for 10 films, however each ticket purchased must be for a different film.
