The winners of the inaugural Fastnet Short Film Festival (May 14 – 17) were announced at an Awards ceremony held in Schull, Co. Cork on Sunday last.
The Awards ceremony which took place in the Harbour View Hotel, Schull, was the accumulation of screenings, workshops, discussions held over the four day festival.
Director Vincent Gallagher pick up the Best of Festival award for ‘An Cosc’, a short film which tells the story of two friends who share a love for hurling but come from the opposite sides of the town.
Brian Durnin's ‘Of Best Intentions’ won in the Best Music category for which Stellarsound’s Steve Lynch recorded the film’s score with the Bratislava Symphony Orchestra last year.
Clare Holman picked up Best Script for ‘The Escort’; Best Comedy went to Sam Donovan for ‘Hammerhead’; Best Cinematography went to Mairtin de Barra’s ‘Tart’; Muriel d'Ansembourg picked up the Award for Best Director for ‘Play’; ‘The Stolen Generation’ by Kim Houghton & Pól O Conghaile was named Best Documentary, ‘Tomato Soup’ by Paul O'Brien won for Best Animation/Experimental and the Best Drama went to Patrick O’Shea’s ‘Penny’.
Special Mentions went to ‘Ballad’ (Guillaume Balois); ‘Behind Blue Eyes’ (Marty Moynihan); ‘Brokeback Cowboy’ (John Burns); ‘Duality’ (Noel Brady); ‘Eternal’ (Steve Woods); ‘Feileacháin’ (Cecilia McAlister); ‘God & Naploeon’ (Ciaran Deeney), ‘Liminal’ (Stephen Keep Mills).
