‘Waveriders’ & ‘Granny’ win at Newport Beach
07 May 2009 :
Waveriders
IFTA winning productions 'Waveriders', directed by Joel Conroy, and the animation short ‘Granny O’Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ have both picked up awards at the 10th Newport Beach Film Festival in California.

Produced by Margo Harkin of Besom Productions, ‘Waveriders’ scooped the Outstanding Achievement in Action Sports Filmmaking Award. The doc is currently on release in cinemas throughout Ireland and UK through Element Pictures Distribution.

‘Outstanding Achievement in Short Filmmaking – Animation’ went to Nicky Phelan’s ‘Granny Grimm’s Sleeping Beauty’ produced by Brown Bag Films. The animation sees Granny O'Grimm retelling her version of the Sleeping Beauty fairy tale to her granddaughter at bedtime with her version hitting a little too close to home.

Ian Fitzgibbons dark comedy 'A Film With Me In It' starring Mark Doherty and Dylan Moran was the Irish Spotlight film at the festival.
