Producer Andrew Freedman from Venom Films has been selected as one of the 23 film producers for The European Film Promotion’s ‘Producers on the Move’ programme at the Cannes International Film Festival running from 13 - 24 May, 2009.
This is the 10th year that EFP will bring together up-and-coming producers from various European countries. The goal is to support them in their networking on a European level and attract the attention of international film industry and press. The programme, which is funded by the MEDIA Programme of the European Union, the EFP member organisations and sponsors, has since been established as a label and is successfully used by the participants at the film festival in Cannes as a platform to make new contacts.
Andrew Freedman who co-owns the production company Venom Films with director Ken Wardrop has a string of producing credits including the shorts ‘Farewell Packets of Ten’, the IFTA and European Film Award winning short ‘Undressing My Mother’ as well as the new feature ‘One Hundred To One Outsiders’, funded through the Irish Film Board’s micro budget scheme.
From May 16-19, the selected 23 independent producers who have already made a mark with their productions in their home countries and at film festivals, but are still at the beginning of their international careers will have the chance in various roundtables to discuss the themes, planning and financing of current projects as well as future works. Moreover, EFP is inviting all of the participants from the previous years to the traditional Producers Lunch.
The selected producers will take home many ideas and new contacts from the diverse meetings with colleagues and thanks to the spotlights in the international festival publications in Cannes. Past attendees include ‘Hunger’ producer Laura Hastings-Smith and Macdara Kelleher of Fastnet Films who will produce ‘The Runway’ by Ian Power in July with Bernard Michaux of Lucil Film (Luxembourg).
