Irish Nominations For London Critics Awards

Irish titles ‘Hunger’, ‘In Bruges’, ‘The Escapist’ and actor Peter O’Toole (Venus) are among the nominees for next year’s London Film Critics’ Circle Awards, which take place February 4th at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

‘Hunger’ along with Ron Howard's ‘Frost/Nixon’, and Mike Leigh's ‘Happy-Go-Lucky’ has sealed five nominations each for the Awards which are chosen by The London Film Critics' Circle - composed of 100 members who write for newspapers and magazines published all over the U.K. ‘Hunger’ nominations include The Attenborough Award: British Film of the Year, Best British Director, Best British Actor in a Lead Role of the Year, Best British Actor in a Supporting Role and Breakthrough British Filmmaker.

Martin McDonagh has been nominated for Scriptwriter of the Year for penning ‘In Bruges’ starring Colin Farrell and Brendan Gleeson and has also been nominated in the Attenborough Award: British Film of the Year as well as McDonagh being nominated in the Breakthrough British Filmmaker category.

Rupert Wyatt director of Parallel Film’s ‘The Escapist’ has also been nominated in the Breakthrough British Filmmaker cat.

Peter O'Toole – joins Liam Cunningham in the British Actor in a Supporting Role for his work in ‘Dean Spanley’ and Asa Butterfield the young actor at the centre of film adaptation of Irish writer John Boyne’s The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas’ has been nominated in the Young British Performer of the Year.

Judi Dench will be presented with the Dilys Powell Award for outstanding contribution to cinema.

The London Film Critics' Circle has more than 100 members who write for newspapers and magazines published all over the U.K. and the awards will be held as a fund-raiser for the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children.
