Alexander Pearce Doc to Premiere on RTÉ
16 Dec 2008 :
‘The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce’, a new feature length-dramatised documentary, featuring Adrian Dunbar (Whistleblower) and Ciarán McMenamin (Watermelon) will air as part of RTÉ's Hidden History strand on December 29th on RTÉ One.

Having had a preview screening at the Clones Film Festival in October, ‘The Last Confession of Alexander Pearce’ will receive its Irish television premiere over the Christmas period. The docu drama follows Irishman Alexander Pearce (McMenamin) as he awaits execution after being deported to Van Diemen’s Land and is reduced by the prison colony experience to serial cannibalism – a story that rocked the English-speaking world in its day. Pearce hailed from Clones parish before he was deported in 1819 after stealing six pairs of shoes.

Written and produced by Enniskillen born Nial Fulton, and co produced by the Australian Essential Viewing Group and RTÉ/ BBCNI, the film is directed by Michael James Rowland (Lucky Miles). It was commissioned for RTÉ Television by Kevin Dawson, Commissioning Editor for Factual Programmes.
