‘Seacht’ To Broadcast On NI BBC 2
20 Oct 2008 :
Seacht
Having broadcast on TG4 earlier this year ‘Seacht’, the eight part Irish language fictional drama series, co-produced between Stirling Film and Television Productions Tyrone Productions, and EO Teilifís, is to be broadcast from tonight (October 20) on BBC Two NI at 10pm.

Directed by Robert Quinn (Cré na Cille), the series centres on the lives of seven first year graduate students in a performing arts academy in Belfast. ‘Ros Na Rún’ actress Linda Bhreathnach plays Eithne whose love affair with the DJ Pete (Eoghan McDermott) provides the series with its major dramatic storyline. Actors Neasa Ní Chuanaigh, Aoife Nic Ardghail, Andrew Kavanagh, Alana Henderson and Diarmaid Murtagh also star.

Amongst the 'Seacht' supporting cast is IFTA winning actress Charlotte Bradley (About Adam), Tom Ó Súilleabháin (The Running Mate), Bríd Ní Neachtain (Cré na Cille), Brendan Murray (Aifric) and Dairíne Ní Dhonnchú (Damage).

The series was devised by Anne Learmont and storylined by Anne and Ailbhe Nic Giolla Bhrighde. Writers were Louise Ní Fhiannachta, Gemma Breathnach, Colleen Ní Bhraonáin, Ailbhe Nic Giolla Bhrighde, Sean de Gallaí and Edel Ní Dhrisceoil.

’Seacht’ is the first project to emerge from a new partnership between Stirling Film and Television Productions (Northern Ireland), EO Teilifís and Tyrone Productions (Ireland) from a partnership was created in September 2006 in a bid to produce new television drama projects. The partnership has also devised a series of training and production initiatives aimed at developing a low cost base for new drama projects.

The new partnership has secured support for the innovative project from the Northern Ireland Screen Commission/Irish Language Broadcasting Fund, Broadcasting Commission of Ireland, BBC, TG4 and the Irish Film Board.

The second series of ‘Seacht' was filmed on campus at Queens University Belfast during the summer of 2008 and will be screened by BBC NI in January 2009.
