The Waterford Film Festival running from 5 -9 November will open with a screening of new Irish feature ‘8.5 hours’ produced by Instigator Films and directed by Brian Lally.
Written and directed by Lally, the drama set in modern day Dublin centers on a day in the lives of four people who work together in a small software company. The characters find their lives are in turmoil and each experiences a series of life changing events which unfolds throughout their working day of 9 am to 5.30, the 8.5 hours of the title. The four leads are played by Jonathan Byrne (The Honeymooners), Lynette Callaghan (Cold Feet), Victor Burke (Welcome to September) and Art Kearns and the film features a large supporting cast including Geraldine Plunkett. Having previously directed the shorts ‘Aftermath’ and ‘Soul Mate’; ‘8.5 Hours’ is Lally’s debut feature. The film was independently produced, being filmed in Dublin over five weeks in February and March of 2007.
Feature Irish documentaries to screen include ‘Cool as Fxxk’ directed by Marcin Skruch ‘To Dublin With Love’ a Canadian production by director Barbara Doran and ‘The Lost World of the Crystal Skull’ by Gabriel Murray
Irish fiction features to screen include the ‘Apollo Music Club’ directed by Rita-Marie Lawlor which tells the story of an eclectic group of young musicians who meet on a part time music course, ‘The Hidden’ directed by Jessie Kirby and ‘Strange Days Are These’ directed by Jake McKone.
Short films and documentaries will also screen including ‘The Basket Case’ and ‘The Confession’. Venue for the festival screenings are; The Tower Hotel, Masons Bar+ Night Club and the Greyfriars Art Gallery in Waterford City.
