The new date for the showing of the Wildfire documentary ‘About Beauty’ is next Monday the 1st September at 22.30pm on RTE One. Directed by Conor Horgan and produced by Martha O'Neill of Wildfire films, the film centers on the work of artist Dorothy Cross, who as an accomplished diver, gathers her inspiration and art pieces from the sea and its inhabitants.
The film follows Cross on her journey to New Ireland, a small island off Papua New Guinea, and also includes a behind-the-scenes look at the creation of her renowned "Ghost Ship" installation, the luminous lightship that docked in Dun Laoighaire Harbour.
This documentary marks the first time the artist has agreed to participate in a film about her work. Filmed from November 2006 - October 2007, post-production was carried out by Egg with Tadgh O’Sullivan as the editor. The film was funded as part of the Irish Film Board/Arts Council Documenting the Arts scheme.
This week sees Wildfire Films commencing principal photography on a new documentary for RTÉ centered on the original Irish soap opera ‘The Riordans’. The shoot will last for 4 weeks and is produced by Adrian McCarthy and directed by Gerry Neilson. Other projects in development included the ‘Fear’ the second installment in a triology funded by the Arts Council and a documentary based on undertakers for TG4, directed by Macdara Ócurraidhain.
