Fresh from its success at the Belfast Film Festival, Simon Fitzmaurice’s award-winning short ‘The Sound of People’ is set for Irish cinema release by Eclipse Pictures on 16th May 2008. The 7 minute short, produced by Noreen Donohue, will screen with Jon Poll’s comedy ‘Charlie Bartlett’.
‘The Sound of People’ recently scooped the Jameson Short Film Award at the Belfast Film Festival, which took place from 10th-19th April 2008. The film was also the only Irish short to screen in the International Dramatic Shorts selection at the Sundance Film Festival in January this year.
“Sundance was a fantastic launching pad for the festival life of The Sound of People,” said the film’s producer, Noreen Donohoe of Diva Media. ”To date we have screened at a host of festivals worldwide. We are delighted that Irish audiences will get to see this powerful short film on the big screen.”
The film stars IFTA-nominated actor Martin McCann (Closing the Ring, My Boy Jack), Kevin O'Dwyer (Aifric, An Creatur), Jayne Stynes (Paddywhackery), Seamus Hanly, Aidan Turner, Conrad Kemp, Eimear O’Grady and Muirdeach Bradley.
The film tells the story of a moment in the life of an eighteen year old boy. In the time and space of a single moment, Stephen makes contact with his past and future and staring into the face of his own death, becomes aware that he is alive.
‘The Sound of People’ was shot on location in Dublin, Bray and Ardmore Studios by DOP Ivan McCullough. Music for the film was composed by Stephen McKeon, with sound design by Lar Scally, and sound mix by Ardmore Sound. Editing by Lawrence Fee at Yard Media.
The film was commissioned by the Filmbase / RTÉ with print support from the Irish Film Board.
