‘The Simpsons Movie’ proved a massive hit with Irish audiences in 2007, winning the race for Number One feature at the Irish box office. The animated film featuring America’s best known family, tops the chart earning a €5.4m box office haul.
In what appears to have been a bumper year at the Irish box office, takings for this year’s number one feature dwarfs 2006’s top earner, Pirates of the Caribbean 2: Dead Man's Chest, which took €3.9m over the twelve months.
Another animated film, ‘Shrek the Third’, the third installment in the Shrek series, proved a popular choice with audiences winning second place with €4.5m takings.
Irish audiences showed their appreciation for Hollywood sequels throughout the year with ‘Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix’, ‘Spiderman 3’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End’ rounding out the top five earning €3.5m, €3.5m and €3.4m respectively.
Leading the bottom half of the top ten is another animated hit ‘Ratatouille’ followed by Paul Greengrass’ IFTA nominated ‘The Bourne Ultimatum’, Michael Bay’s summer blockbuster ‘Transformers’, summer comedy hit ‘Knocked Up’ and finally another sequel adventure ‘Die Hard 4.0’ takes the tenth spot.
