Martin McDonagh’s debut feature film ‘In Bruges’, starring Irish actors Colin Farrell (Miami Vice, Intermission) and Brendan Gleeson (Beowulf, The Tiger’s Tail) is set to reach Irish cinemas on Friday 7th March.
The UK/US co-production, penned by McDonagh, also stars Ralph Fiennes (The Constant Gardener, Maid in Manhattan) and Northern Irish actor Ciarán Hinds (Rome, Mickybo and Me). Universal Pictures will release the title in Ireland in March following its world premiere at the Sundance Film Festival in the US on Thursday 17th January.
The black crime comedy, produced by Graham Broadbent and Peter Czernin, tells the story of two hitmen, Ray and Ken (Farrell and Gleeson), who are forced by their boss Harry (Fiennes) to take a holiday in Bruges after they mess up an assignment. Once in the Belgian city, their plans begin to unravel.
Tony-award winning playwright McDonagh, whose theatre credits include ‘The Beauty Queen of Leenane’, ‘The Lonesome West’ and ‘The Lieutenant of Inishmore’, picked up an Oscar and IFTA Award for Best Short Film for 'Six Shooter'.
