Hawthorn Film Productions have announced details of their feature film ‘The Vein Within’, set to begin production in January 2008. Produced and directed by debut helmer Philip A. McCarthy, the drama will star Don Baker (Mystics) and newcomer James Browne.
With a micro-budget of €50,000, the independent pic will be shot on HD on location in Cork. Co-written by McCarthy, John Daly, Kevin Connoll and Gerard Horgan, the script is based upon McCarthy’s play, ‘The Dark Room’, that was staged at the Dram Fest in Cork. ‘The Vein Within’ enters the world of drug addiction, examining the perils and consequences of substance abuse.
McCarthy, a recovering addict, says the story was just too good to let go. “We won an award at the Dram Fest and then thought it would make a great film. It’s about time a film is being made about Drug Addiction and the damage drugs are doing to young people and their families.”
Crew already linked to the project is DOP Padraig O’Rourke and Assistant Director Paul Batt, who acted in the 1994 feature ‘War of the Buttons’.
McCarthy is currently completing finance for the film.
