Irish-American actor Aidan Quinn (Song for a Raggy Boy, The Playboys) will receive the Excellence Award from the Boston Irish Film Festival this weekend. The Excellence award s a centerpiece for the festival’s four day programme dedicated to celebrating Ireland and Irish on screen.
Quinn, who was born in Chicago but is an Irish citizen, has starred in numerous feature film and television projects during his 20+ year career to date. Features including ‘Desperately Seeking Susan’, ‘The Playboys’, 'Legends of the Fall', the multi award winning ‘Song for a Raggy Boy’ and television productions such as ‘Empire Falls’ and ‘The Book of Daniel’. The actor most recently starred in HBO’s ‘Bury My Heart at Wounded Knee’ series for which he received an Emmy nomination.
Other guests at the film festival include David Gleeson, who is collecting the Best Feature Award for 'The Front Line'; Margo Harkin, who picks up the Best Documentary award for ‘The Hunger Strike’; cinematographer/director PJ Dillon ,who receives the Best Short Fiction/Animation gong for ‘Deep Breaths’ and Dave McLaughlin, who wins the Director’s choice statuette for his Boston-filmed ‘On Broadway’.
Other highlights at the Boston Festival include Anthony Byrne’s ‘Short Order’, Robert Quinn’s ‘Cre N Cille’, Vinny Cunningham’s ‘No Go – The Free Derry Story’, Brendan J. Byrne’s ‘Blind Vision’ and Alison Reilly’s ‘My Heroin Hell – Rache’s Story.’
