Cinemagic Calls For Young Jury Members

Coca-Cola Cinemagic International Film and Television Festival are seeking budding film critics between the ages of 10-18 years to sit on the jury panel for this year’s fest, which takes place from 16th November – 2nd December.

The panel will be required to watch all films that are being screened in competition during the festival, and to choose a number of winning entries.

A jury of 10 to 14 year olds will help decide the winners of Best Feature Film for a Children’s Audience and Best Short for a Children’s Audience, while a panel of 15 to 18 year olds will vote for Best Feature for a Teenage Audience and Best Short Film for a Teenage Audience.

Jury members will have an opportunity to meet industry professionals and to present the awards at Storm Cinemas on the closing night, as well as expand their knowledge of different film genres and meet other young people with a similar interest in film.

Young people interested in being on the Cinemagic jury should submit an imaginative letter or e-mail (300 words max) explaining why they would like to be on the jury and send it to to: Jury Competition, Cinemagic, 49 Botanic Avenue, Belfast BT7 1JL or email: claire@cinemagic.org.uk Closing date for applications: Friday 9th November 2007

Applicants must have permission from a parent/guardian and their school to be a jury member and be able to arrange their own transport to and from the Festival.

Over 20 ‘in competition’ features which the jury members will view come from around the globe including the tale of ‘Mystery of the Wolf’ 30th Nov, the simple love story ‘Little Box of Sweets’ on 20th Nov, and the story of war and friendship told in the Swedish made film ‘Zozo’ on 19th November.

Q & A’s at the fest included special effects expert Brian Freisinger, who will give a Q&A before the screening of ‘Bridge to Terabithia’ on 21st Nov; John Reid from Warner Music, Emap editorial consultant Barry McIlheney, and Mark Kermode, who will talk before the screening of ‘Silent Running’ on November 1st.
