Irish International BBDO picked up the Irish Grand Prix award for Diageo’s ‘Music Machine’ commercial, at the 45th Shark Awards which took place from the 6th-8th September in Kinsale, Co. Cork.
The Diageo ad also received a further three awards – Best Irish Television Commercial, Best Post Production/Special Effects and Best Sound Design.
Other Irish winners include Publicis QMP, which scooped six awards - four for Halifax’s ‘Dance Off’, a Silver for Failte Ireland’s ‘Chicken’ and a Baby Shark Young Creative award for Cadbury’s ‘Summer Rain’ ad.
McCann Erickson won four awards, including two Gold for Heineken’s ‘Memory Hotel’, while McConnells Advertising’s ‘Bodies Never Lie 2’ for Ballygowan scooped three awards including an award for composer Steve Lynch aka Stellarsound. Lynch’s version of David Bowie’s ‘Lets Dance’ reached number five in the Irish charts and earned the composer a Gold Shark for best use of music in a commercial. Chemistry won three gongs, including a Silver for Irish Life’s ‘Diver’ commercial.
The Sharks, which was this year hosted by Irish comedian Neil Delamere, rewards outstanding broadcast creative work and was attended by a record number of over 350 delegates from international advertising agencies.
The Promo Shark Awards - the sister event to the Shark Awards - also took place at the weekend, at Ballinacurra House on Friday 7th September.
RTE was a big winner on the night, scooping eight awards, while Publicis QMP won five Promo Sharks including four for TG4’s Best of Irish & American Television. People in Need received a ‘Best Use of Humour’ Silver Promo Shark for their Shane McGowan ad.
On the international front, Germany’s Creation Club GMBH won six awards and McCann Erickson – USA bring back five awards including the Promo Sharks Grand Prix for the TV programme ‘On The Lot’.
Jury member, Craig ‘The Moose’ Moore from Sydney, Australia, revealed: “There wasn’t much debate between the judges, as the ads were pretty clear cut – either really, really good or not so good. I’ve sat on a lot of juries, but it’s clear, from the standard of entries and the number of delegates, that the Sharks are a very important Awards show, especially as it is the only one solely devoted to creativity.”
