'Damage' and 'Bloody Sunday' amongst nominations for the multi-platform media festival that selects the best in European television, radio and internet productions that takes place from 13th-20th October 2007 in Berlin and Potsdam.
Eight Irish productions will compete at the 21st edition of the Prix Europa Awards, the multi-platform media festival that selects the best in European television radio and internet productions, and takes place from 13th-20th October 2007 in Berlin and Potsdam.
This year saw 671 productions entered, with 255 of these, from 34 European countries, being selected to compete for 13 awards in 9 categories.
Aisling Walsh’s television drama ‘Damage’, produced by Subotica, will compete in the ‘TV Fiction’ category; Margon Harkin’s ‘Bloody Sunday’ will battle it out in the ‘TV Documentary’ strand, while Caroline Bleahan’s ‘Little Brazil: Gort, Ireland’, is a nominee in the ‘TV Iris’ category.
In the ‘Radio Drama’ category, Aidan Mathews ‘Kerry Plates’ and Veronica Coburn’s ‘Mayday’ will compete, while the Irish nominees for ‘Radio Documentary’ are ‘Harmony Heights’ and ‘A Convict of the Road’, both directed by Peter Woods. All radio programmes were entered by RTE.
Derek Mooney’s ‘Mooney Cam Blue Tits’ will compete in the ‘Internet Exploration’ strand, entered by RTE.
Prix Europa, founded in 1987 by the European Cultural Foundation and the Council of Europe, aims to promote the trademark "Made in Europe", while being a forum for quality programmes and young talent.
For the first time there will online-voting at Prix Europa, with the best of the nominated films in the Spot category "I am Europe" chosen by Internet users.
An eclectic mix of projects can be expected at this year’s festival, which attracts around 1000 media professionals each year, on themes ranging from globalization to the individual’s private experience.
