IFI Announce Stranger Than Fiction Doco Fest Line-Up
22 Aug 2007 :
The Irish Film Institute has revealed the line-up for this year’s Stranger Than Fiction documentary film festival, which takes place from the 13th-16th September at the IFI, Eustace Street, Temple Bar.
The festival will screen 24 feature-length docos over four days, with almost one third of the films made by home-grown talent. The IFI will also host a series of forums, master classes and lectures given by high-profile guests throughout the festival.

Now in its sixth year, the Festival once more offers films from a diverse range of subjects and styles, covering a wide breadth of topics, expression and perspective.

The festival opens with Irish director Cathal Black’s ‘The Undertaking’, a journey into the world of the mortuary business. Highlights include Ron Howard’s ‘In The Shadow of the Moon’, which brings together for the first time surviving crew members from every single Apollo mission and lets them tell their story in their own words. Investigative journalist Donal McIntyre will be in attendance with his film ‘A Very British Gangster’ which explores the world of one of Britain’s most dangerous and brutal crime families. Canadian doco ‘Manufacturing Dissent’ attempts to separate fact from fiction as it follows controversial filmmaker Michael Moore on a promotional tour of his movie ‘Farenheit 9/11’

The Festival Guest of Honour is veteran documentary film-maker Roger Graef, OBE. A criminologist, biographer, fly-on-the-wall pioneer and founder of the Comic Relief comedy documentaries, Graef will introduce his documentary ‘Pleasure at Her Majesty’s at 10.30pm on Friday September 14th and will give a public interview following the double bill of ‘A Complaint of Rape’ and ‘Murder Blues’ at 1.25pm on Saturday September 15th. He will also give a Masterclass in Documentary Film Making.

Other guests talking at the event include David Norris, film-maker George Morrison, actor Stephen Rea and Richard Boyd Barrett.

A selection of films from this year’s festival will be traveling to the EYE Cinema in Galway and the QFT in Belfast.

The Stranger Then Fiction festival is co-produced by The Irish Film Institute, The Irish Film Board, RTE and TG4.
