Paddy Breathnach’s latest feature film ‘Shrooms’ will receive its world premiere screening at the forthcoming Edinburgh International Film Festival (15 – 26 August). The Scottish festival will also host the UK premiere of John Carney’s award winning feature ‘Once’.
‘Shrooms’, the latest from director Paddy Breathnach (Man About Dog, I Went Down) and writer Pearse Elliott (Man About Dog, The Mighty Celt), will feature in the Night Movies strand of the festival. The horror flick follows five American college students on a camping trip in Ireland. Alone in the woods, the students experiment with magic mushrooms and ghostly visions begin to appear that may, or may not, be real. Cast includes Lindsey Haun (Alias, Malcom In The Middle) and Jack Huston (Factory Girl).
John Carney’s ‘Once’ has been selected for the Director’s Showcase programme of the festival. Starring musicians Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova, the UK premiere is screening is bolstered by a successful Irish and US cinema release earlier this year and award winning screenings at the Dublin and Sundance Film Festival.
Opening the Edinburgh Film Festival is the premiere of David Mackenzie’s ‘Hallam Foe’. ‘Two Days in Paris’, the directorial debut of French actress Julie Delpy brings the festival to a close on the 26th. The Festival will play host to many of the biggest names in cinema, including a rare UK appearance by legendary director and raconteur John Waters. Oscar® winning actor Chris Cooper, and great British directors Mike Leigh and Stephen Frears, will also take the stage as part of the exclusive In Person interviews.
This year’s main retrospective celebrates screenwriter Anita Loos, whose brilliant career in Hollywood spanned five decades, from silent classic ‘Intolerance’ to Golden Age comedy ‘Gentlemen Prefer Blondes’.
