Telegael Wins Second Emmy Award for ‘Tutenstein’

The Spideál based production company, Telegael Media Group, is celebrating a second Emmy Award success, in the in the category of Outstanding Special Class Animated Programme, for their animated cartoon series ‘Tutenstein’.

The 34th Annual Creative Arts & Entertainment Daytime Emmy® Awards were presented on 14 June, at a black-tie gala at Hollywood’s Hollywood & Highland Ballroom. Speaking from Los Angeles following the award ceremony, Telegael CEO Paul Cummins, expressed his happiness at the Telegael win: “The fact Telegael has been nominated for Emmys for four consecutive years highlights the strength and the consistency of the company’s production slate and underlines the level of skill and talent amongst the team at our studios in An Spidéal. This win also underlines the tremendous strides which the company has made in the highly competitive global animation industry”.

Siobhán Ní Ghadhra, Head of Production in Telegael, and ‘Tutenstein’ Producer, said the win was ‘an honour for the company and was a credit to all the team in Telegael for their hard work and dedication over many years’.

‘Tutenstein’ tells the story of a ten-year-old boy mummy who is struck by lightning and brought back to life in a modern-day museum in a large metropolitan city. In 2004, Telegael won an Emmy award for Series One of the programme, in the category of ‘Outstanding Special Class Animated Programme’.

‘Tutenstein’ was broadcast coast to coast in the USA as part of the Discovery Kids block on the NBC channel and has been shown in over forty countries around the world. This nomination is for series two, which was completed in Telegael in 2006. Discussions are currently taking place in relation to the production of a third television series and also the production of ‘Tutenstein’ the movie.

Yesterday’s ‘Tutenstein’ win continues the company’s outstanding achievements in the Emmy Awards, which is considered the Oscars of the television world. Among the 2007 nominations, which were announced in New York City on February 7th, Telegael productions ‘Tutenstein’ and ‘Growing Up Creepie’ were nominated in the category of ‘Outstanding Special Class Animated Programme’ while another Telegael series ‘Toddworld’ was nominated for the ‘Outstanding Children’s Animation Programme’ award. In 2005 and 2006, Telegael also received an Emmy nomination for series one of ‘Toddworld’ in the category of ‘Outstanding Children’s Animated Programme’.

Telegael Media Group is one of Ireland's leading Animation and Television production companies. Since its inception in 1989, the company has worked with international producers, distributors and broadcasters to co-develop, co-produce and co-finance television, animation and live action programming for the global market. The company also recently won an IFTA award for the teenage comedy drama series ‘Aifric’ in the category of ‘Best Children’s/Youth Programme’. Telegael also recently produced the highly successful documentary ‘Tall, Dark & Ó hAilpín’, which received just under half a million viewers when broadcast in January 2007 on RTÉ 1.

Telegael now employs 50 full-time staff and approximately 200 others who provide a range of creative, production and technical services to the company on a part-time or freelance basis.
