New RTÉ Series to Give Aspiring Actors a Shot in LA
08 Jun 2007 :
RTÉ Television and Sideline Productions in association with Red Pepper Productions are looking for ten Irish-based actors who want a shot at the big time in LA and the chance to star in a 6-part TV series for RTÉ.
They are looking for aspiring actors to take part in ‘Hollywood Trials’, a brand new 6-part primetime programme to be broadcast on RTÉ in early 2008. The chosen few will be flown to Los Angeles, where they will live together in a house in West Hollywood. During their four weeks in LA they will attend a specially designed master-class with world-renowned acting and audition coach Margie Haber, who for the last 20 years has worked with rising stars and working actors in Hollywood, including Brad Pitt, Halle Berry, Vince Vaughn, Kristin Davis, Heather Locklear and many more.

Margie Haber is regarded by Hollywood as the best acting coach in the business, and worked with Brad Pitt on the audition that got him his breakthrough part in 'Thelma and Louise'. She is renowned for her ability to help actors explore the emotional level of their craft and is said to be the answer to every actor's audition prayers.

The ten actors who take part in ‘Hollywood Trials’ can come from a variety of backgrounds. They can be professional, semi-professional or could have experience in amateur dramatics. To widen the selection potential process they can also have a background in student drama, modelling, stand-up comedy or television presenting, but Rule No 1 is that they must have some acting experience on their CV and success as an actor must be their driving ambition in life.

‘Hollywood Trials’ will document the personal journey that each actor makes as they take part in this extraordinary experience. The male and female actors will live in a house in West Hollywood and cameras will follow their experiences in and out of the acting studios.

As part of their training, the ten chosen actors will receive over 80 hours of on-camera instruction at the Margie Haber Studio, intensive work in the Haber Phrase Technique, sessions with dialect coaches, advice from working actors in Hollywood, managers, agents and casting directors working in Hollywood. They will also get the chance to network at film screenings and theatre events, tapings of television shows and VIP studio tours and to shine at industry parties.

Applicants must be over 18 years and only those with some acting credits for stage, shorts, TV, film or commercials should apply. This should be outlined in their CV with a 10x8 photograph and a DVD showreel if possible. In the absence of an industry showreel all other applicants should submit a 60-second pitch on DVD on why they should be considered for this chance of a lifetime.

Grainne McAleer, RTÉ's Commissioning Editor, said - 'We've seen the success of Irish talent in music, stage and screen around the world. Hollywood Trials will give our viewers an exciting insight into what it takes to make it in Hollywood while, at the same time, giving these young actors the chance of a lifetime in their chosen field."

For full details and an application form log on to www.rte.ie/tv/hollywoodtrials For further details email hollywoodtrials@sideline.ie. The closing date for applications is 29th June 2007.

Applicants will be shortlisted to take part in auditions in Dublin on July 20th to 22nd with Margie Haber. The ten successful actors will fly to LA at the beginning of September for one month. All intending participants should be available on these dates.

Hollywood Trials is produced for RTÉ by Sideline in association with Red Pepper Productions
