A selection of Irish films are set to begin the first ever traveling Irish film festival in Poland throughout the month of June. The Reel Ireland tour will feature 5 Irish titles (The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Breakfast On Pluto, Studs, Bloody Sunday and Adam & Paul ) and will travel to festivals in Gydnia, Warsaw and Kracow.
Established in 2005, Reel Ireland makes items from the Irish Film Archive of The Irish Film Institute available to cultural exhibitors in Ireland and abroad.
“We at the IFI are delighted to be involved in this first ever Reel Ireland event in Poland,” says Festivals and Reel Ireland Co-ordinator Aoife Coughlan. “Following the success of the inaugural Polish Film Festival here last year, we began planning to bring a programme of Irish films to Poland, many of which have not been seen there before. There are so many connections between Ireland and Poland now this sort of cultural exchange just seems to make perfect sense.”
The three festivals will be held from 15th June, 15-16 June Gydnia, 22-23 June Warsaw and 29-30 June Krakow.
The Reel Ireland package, updated annually, comprises contemporary feature films, documentaries, shorts and classic archive titles, and offers audiences everywhere an exciting opportunity to experience some of the diversity of Irish cinema.
This year titles available from Reel Ireland include, Ken Loach’s ‘The Wind That Shakes the Barley’, and John Boorman’s ‘The Tiger’s Tail’ alongside some old favourites such as Alan Parker’s ‘The Commitments’.
