BL!NDER have announced that they had a great response to their BL!NDSPOT competition, with over 40 applicants.
The competition was launched in May 2006 to find new and distinctive voices in the field of television advertising. Applicants were invited to make a test commercial for a real or imaginary product, service or cause. The commercial had to be less than 60 seconds and could be shot on any format: DV, film, beta, or even mobile phone. Animation was also an option.
Kieron J Walsh, Director, Bl!nder Ltd., and one of the competition judges, says, “We were delighted by the high standard demonstrated by the entries. We were looking for originality, style, clarity of idea and impact. A brilliant idea badly executed wouldn’t cut it. A bad idea that looked great wouldn't impress either. We were looking for a commercial employing tools such as humour, casting, performance, emotion, beauty and simplicity to entice audiences.”
Other judges for the award included Creative Directors from leading Irish agencies Chemistry Strategic Communications, DDFH & B, GreyHelme, Irish International BBDO, Javelin/Young and Rubicam, McCann Erickson, McConnells, Ogilvy & Mather Advertising, Publicis QMP and Young Euro RSCG, as well as Bl!nder.
The BL!NDSPOT Award Night for this unique competition will be held in early March in the Sugar Club in Dublin, and will be hosted by Irish comedian Owen O’Neill. Everyone who sent in a commercial is invited to the event, which will be attended by directors and industry professionals. All 44 entries will be shown on the night.
The judges will then announce their shortlist of 5 and the cheque for €2000 will be presented to the winner. The winning director may also be offered the opportunity to be represented by
Bl!nder.
