EGG Completes Post On BBC’s ‘George Gently’
04 Apr 2007 :
EGG Post Production have completed work on the BBC’s new 90-min drama ‘George Gently’ providing the video post production for this pilot. ‘Gently’, starring Martin Shaw (The Professionals), will air at 9:00pm BBC1 on Easter Sunday, 8th April.

Written by Peter Flannery (Our Friends in the North) and adapted from the Inspector Gently series of novels by Alan Hunter, the drama sees 1960’s Britain in a time when the line between the police and criminals has become increasingly blurred.

With Shaw in the title role he is joined by a first rate cast including Phil Davis (Notes on a Scandal, Bleak House, Mid-Summer Murders), Richard Armitage (Robin Hood, The Vicar of Dibley), Lee Ingleby (The Wind in the Willows, The Street, Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban) and some well known Irish faces including Sean McGinley (The Wind that Shakes the Barley, Tigers Tail, Pure Mule, Shrooms, Bleak House) and Amy Huberman (The Clinic, Showbands, On Home Ground). As the case reaches its violent climax, Gently begins to feel that his brand of policing is needed now more than ever – and perhaps he is not ready to call this his last case after all….

‘George Gently’ was shot on High Definition format on location in Ireland. DOP Peter Robertson filmed ‘Gently’ over 4 weeks in Wicklow and various other locations around Dublin at the end of 2006.

EGG Post Production provided the video post production for the series using their fully HD facility and Final Cut Studio editing systems at their facility in Lad Lane, Dublin.

Editors Philip Kloss (My Family & Other Animals, The Mark of Cain) and Gary Shortall (Legend, Home for Christmas) cut the series, assisted by Orla Malone (Vets on Call, 5-star).

The online finishing team was headed up by Eugene McCrystal and EGG’s Digital Artist Thomas Fitzgerald providing the visual effects. Shot on HDCAM and posted in HD, ‘Gently’ was one of the many projects to go through EGG’s new Digital Intermediate System which provides a completely tape-less workflow, allowing grading, visual effects, graphics and reformatting to happen simultaneously over all finishing areas. The HD Projection technology was an impressive way to present the final work when working in HD.

‘George Gently’ is a Company Pictures production for BBC 1. Other Exec Producers are George Faber and Charlie Pattinson for Company Pictures and Polly Hill for BBC One. Produced by Jake Lushington (Mysterious Creatures) and directed by Euros Lyn (Doctor Who). ‘Gently’ is due to be aired on Sunday, 8th April on BBC 1 at 9.00pm.

EGG are currently working on a number of projects including ‘The Clinic – Series 5’ for Parallel Films which went into production 2nd April. ‘The Running Mate’ for Rubicon Films – a 4-part drama for TG4 based in Dingle, ‘Ar Bruach na Life’ for Icebox Films, ‘Consuming Passions’ for Wildfire Films which moves into post at the end of April 2007, ‘Vets on Call’ series returns and ‘Back to Nature’ – a new 6-part nature series (GMTV/RTE). Following from the success of the award winning ‘Pure Mule’ EGG are delighted to announce they will commence post on ‘EDEN’ a Samson Films feature for RTE/Film Board funded with the assistance of the BCI, later this year.
