Colm Bairéad, director of the short film ‘Mac an Athar’ (His Father's Son), has picked up the Best Director Award at the Savannah Film Festival.
The director of the TG4/Filmbase short film, was last weekend presented with the award at the gala closing ceremony in Georgia, USA.
The Best Director award, for which both shorts and features at the festival were eligible, was presented by the Savannah jury which included top Casting Director Avy Kaufman (Brokeback Mountain, The Sixth Sense, Capote, Syriana) and the film writer David Paterson (The New York Times, MovieMaker Magazine ).
‘Mac an Athar ‘ has recently screened at festivals in Rhode Island and Los Angeles, and continued its successful run picking up awards at the Cleveland International Film Festival and at the Filmstock International Film Festival in the UK.
Written and directed by Colm Bairéad and produced by Greg Corcoran for Fingers Crossed Films, ‘Mac an Athar’ is an examination of a father-son relationship in the aftermath of a devastating family tragedy.
Colm Bairéad and Greg Corcoran are currently developing an Irish-language feature film entitled ‘An Rún’ (The Secret).
